Why do ports, storage yards and mines increasingly use solid tires

At present, port terminals and container transportation equipment tend to be operability and safety considerations, and more and more wheeled vehicles are used. Pneumatic tires have many unsafe factors in terms of unloading, inflation and air pressure. Solid tires are all-rubber constructions, which do not have the above problems and are basically suitable for any harsh environment.

Most vehicles used in places such as ports and wharves use heavy-duty tires. A tire with a pressure of 100kpa contains about 12 times its volume of air and has powerful explosive energy. Once the tire punctures, it will cause great damage. During high-speed driving, the sudden burst of small tires can easily cause the locomotive to roll over and lose control instantly. The solid tire with all rubber structure does not have the risk of puncturing the tire.

In the case of 35% under-inflation, the wear of the tire will be twice as much as under normal conditions; if it is 40% overweight, the life of the tire will be shortened by half. However, solid tires do not need to be inflated and will not be affected by air pressure. Factors such as overweight will have some impact on tire life, but they have little effect compared to pneumatic tires.

Due to the ultra-deep pattern design, the wear resistance of solid tires is 2-3 times that of pneumatic tires, and the extended service life can greatly save costs, while also saving tires and repair costs. Although the price of solid tires at the time of purchase is more expensive than the price of pneumatic tires of the same specification, in long-term use, solid tires can help industrial vehicles running at low speeds and high loads to save costs, and they can be used with ease.
